Women in Maritime Associations
The Women in Maritime Associations (WIMAs) were created through the gender and capacity building programme of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to improve gender equality in the maritime industry. They aim to bridge the gender gap in the sector and serve as a bridge to overcome institutional barriers and cultural stigma faced by women entering the maritime industry.

- Women in Maritime of West and Central Africa (WIMOWCA)
Other associations of interest in the maritime field
- World Maritime University Women's Association (WMUWA). This association aims to establish a network of students, past, present and future, expanding international networks with other associations. Through this partnership, the International Maritime Organization finances the stay of one student at WMU each year.
- Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA International). WISTA is an international network with a mission to attract and support women at senior level in the maritime, trade and logistics sectors. WISTA has consultative status within IMO since 2018.
- The IMarEST Women's Network (Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology). This network provides a forum for discussion and promotes inclusion to encourage change regarding gender inequality in the sector.
